The Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED) is a national-level design aptitude test conducted by the Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) to offer admissions to students in BDes programmes offered at its campuses.
The SEED exam is a 60-minute, computer-based test that consists of 60 multiple-choice questions. The questions are based on the following topics:
- Visual Sensitivity and Judgement: This section of the exam tests your ability to see and understand the world around you visually. Questions in this section may ask you to identify patterns, make comparisons, or interpret images.
- Observational, Perceptual and Reasoning abilities: This section of the exam tests your ability to observe and understand the world around you in a logical way. Questions in this section may ask you to solve puzzles, identify relationships, or make inferences.

- Art, Craft and Culture: This section of the exam tests your knowledge of art, craft, and culture. Questions in this section may ask you to identify different art styles, understand the history of craft, or interpret cultural symbols.
- Design and Environment: This section of the exam tests your knowledge of design principles and environmental concepts. Questions in this section may ask you to identify different design elements, understand the impact of design on the environment, or solve design problems.
There is no negative marking for wrong answers. The SEED exam is held in January every year.
To be eligible to take the SEED exam, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- They must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
- They must have a valid score in the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) or the Common Entrance Test (CET) for Design.
The application process for the SEED exam is online. Candidates can apply through the SID website. The application fee is INR 1,000.
The SEED exam results are announced in February every year. The top candidates are shortlisted for the Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round. The PRPI round is a two-stage process that includes a portfolio review and a personal interview.
The final merit list for admission to SID is prepared based on the candidate’s performance in the SEED exam and the PRPI round.
