NIFT 2023 Course details

NIFT offers around seven undergraduate (UG), three postgraduate (PG), and Ph.D. courses across its sixteen campuses along with continuing education programs for working professionals who wish to specialize. Here is a list of courses offered by NIFT:

Registration Details

Students looking to bag a NIFT admission can apply online at www.nift.ac.in. A detailed prospectus and admissions guidelines are available for those applying. After the application, one would need to make the payment either through an online gateway or a demand draft issued in favor of “NIFT HO” payable at New Delhi.

Careers in Fashion Entrance

Through a NIFT admission, so many doors open for an individual. Some of the most obvious choices of careers after a degree from NIFT are fashion designer, jewelry designer, accessory designer, and apparel or accessory producer. NIFT Eligibility Criteria

To get a NIFT admission, one must have a passing mark in secondary and higher secondary classes from a recognized state or central education boards or any equivalent institution for UG courses. However, undergraduate fashion technology course requires students to have taken up science and math subjects in 12th. To get into PG courses, individuals should have completed a UG degree from NIFT, NID or any other recognized institution. Aside from the educational qualifications, aspirants are required to attend an entrance exam to attain a NIFT admission.

Number of Seats

Across its sixteen campuses, NIFT has 2,370 seats for undergraduates, with 2010 for design and 360 for fashion technology students. For post graduation, one can a NIFT admission to fill one of 640 allotted seats. These seats are further divided based on reservations for caste categories and NRIs. At present, each course (UG and PG) has 29-35 seats available at each NIFT campus, with 4-5 for foreign nationals and NRIs and the rest allotted to residents.

NIFT Application Form

NIFT admission aspirants can find the application form on the institute’s website www.nift.ac.in. NIFT releases the form on the website every year to commence the admission process. This year the application comes out on December 14th and will be available until January 21st 2020, and January 24, 2020 with late fee of Rs. 5000.

Uploading required documents

When filling in the online application for NIFT admission, candidates need to upload the following documents for the completion:

    • Scanned photograph in JPG or JPEG format with size less than 50 KB
    • Certificates of educational qualifications
    • Scanned image of signature in JPG or JPEG format with size less than 50 KB
    • Caste/Tribe/Class certificate
  • Disability certificate for individuals with a disability

Payment of application fee

Application fee for NIFT admission has increased since last year, from Rs. 1500 to Rs. 2000 for General and OBC categories and from Rs. 750 to Rs. 1000 for candidates from SC, ST, and PWD sections. Aspiring candidates have two options to pay for the application- online payment gateway and demand draft (DD). The latter should be issued in interest to “NIFT HO” payable at New Delhi. However, people paying with the late fee can only pay using debit or credit cards.

Counseling for NIFT admission

Candidates who clear all the rounds of entrance exam with merit need to attend the counseling sessions as part of NIFT admission, which helps them choose courses as per their skills and aspirations. Students need to register online for counseling round 1 between May 23 and June 3, and for round 2 between July 19 and July 22. The whole process of counseling, both rounds, takes up most of June and July with around 200 candidates allotted each day.

NIFT Admission Process

NIFT Admission entrance examination for all courses divided into common aptitude test (CAT) and general aptitude test (GAT), each with a duration of 2 hours. Where the former tests the intuitive and creative ability of the candidate, the latter examines overall knowledge in school subject and general knowledge.

Candidate clearing the entrance exam move on to situation test for UG and group discussion for PG candidates. Candidates for B. Des courses are given certain objects and are asked to make a specified item out of them during a situation test. 20% of the marks obtained in the test constitute the final result. For M. Des aspirants, waiting for them after entrance exam is a group discussion with fellow candidates and a judging panel

After examinations, selected candidates attend the counseling sessions, where they are guided over their choice of courses and availability of seats.

NIFT Exam Result Date

NIFT admission results for the CAT and GAT are released first, followed by the results of the situation test that takes place after the former. For the admission 2020, entrance exam results were released on March, 2020 for B. FTech, M. FTech & MFF and March 25, 2020 for B. Des & M. Des courses. The result after the situation tests were out on May 20, 2020.

NIFT Placement

A NIFT admission guarantees the graduates the start of an exciting and fruitful career. Every year the institute conducts placement for upcoming graduates where well-established companies interview the students and hire a suitable candidate. Aside from the campus placement, students are also given pre-placement offers (PPO) from their place of internship while they are still in their college.
