CLAT 2021 Results: First Look at Candidate Preferences and More

CLAT 2021 Results: First Look at Candidate Preferences and More | The First Indicative List of the CLAT 2021 Results has been released on the CLAT website.

Although far from being what the final allotment list may look like, it does offer some interesting insights into the preferences of those who wrote the exam, and the gender profile of the 1974 students who have been allotted seats in one of the 23 National Law Universities.

Given below is an analysis of the numbers.

Gender Comparison

810, or 41% of the 1974 candidates who were allotted a seat in the first list are female. Only 3 of the top ten and 40 of the top 100 ranks belong to girls, making it another year where the boys have done considerably better.

Preference analysis

3 students who were eligible for admission to the premier legal institution in the country, NLISU Bangalore, have opted to join other universities like NALSAR, NUJS and NLIU Bhopal.

The most surprising finding is that successful candidates have rated the latest entrant to the CLAT law schools, Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai, ahead of more established NLUs like HNLU Raipur and RMLNLU Lucknow in their preference list.

It is also interesting to note that 10 seats have not been accounted for. Out of the total of 1984 seats up for grabs (excluding the special category seats), the first list shows only 1974 allotments. Of these, 1 seat each is unaccounted for at NALSAR Hyderabad, NUJS Kolkata and NUALS Kochi. As many as 7 seats are unaccounted for at DSNLU Visakhapatnam. The reason for this is unclear.

As mentioned earlier, this list will undergo substantial changes before the final list is out, so shuffling to and from Universities can be expected. Moreover, a number of these successful candidates may opt for other law schools like NLU Delhi and JGLS, paving the way for other CLAT aspirants to get admission into an NLU.

The second allotment list will be published on the CLAT website on June 13.
