CLAT 2019: Bombay HC withholds 4th Seat Allotment

The fate of candidates seeking NLU admissions through CLAT 2015 still hangs in balance with court orders blocking different stages of CLAT 2019 Counselling. The latest is the Bombay High Court order withholding the fourth and final seat allotment list.

Hearing a petition of a CLAT taker whose rank had fallen after revised CLAT result, the Bombay HCon Saturday, June 20 ordered Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU), the organizing NLU of CLAT this year to withhold the allotment list. The announcement for the fourth and final seat allotment list was scheduled for July 1.

The petitioner, Shubham Dutt had petitioned in the Bombay HC on June 19 that on release of revised CLAT 2015 result, his rank had fallen to 278 from 258.

Earlier, the petitioner had also approached Kerala HC on June 15, raising objections against as many as seven erroneous questions in online CLAT 2015 paper. The state HC had put a stay on the release of second allotment list. However, CLAT 2015 officials went ahead and published the list.

The Bombay HC has also noted the non-compliance of Kerala HC.

The High Court also assured the petitioner that he will be admitted to the desired NLU as per the procedure, if his objections are accepted. The Bombay HC order sheet reads, “If the petitioner’s objections are accepted/considered, he will be in a position to get the admission in desired college as per the procedure so announced.”

Moreover the Bombay HC noted that CLAT 2015 Convener, Dr. J. D. Gangwar has refused to accept copy of the writ petition. The HC, however, still offered one more opportunity to CLAT 2015 Convener to place his argument before the court on the issues raised by the petitioner.

The next hearing of the case is scheduled for July 23, 2015.
