India remains the world’s largest arms importer (9.8% of global imports) despite efforts to boost domestic production. Russia is still the main supplier (36%) but its share is declining. France (33%) and the US (13%) are gaining ground.

 

India #1 in Arms Imports!  SIPRI report says India remains the top importer despite efforts to make its own weapons. France & US are selling more to India, while Russia’s share is dropping. China’s arms imports are down (44%) due to the war in Ukraine impacting Russia (its main supplier). However, China’s military ties with Pakistan (61% of China’s exports) are growing, which is a concern for India. Global arms trade is shifting. The US share of exports is rising (40%) while Russia’s is falling (16%). Tensions in Europe are driving a rise in arms imports there.
